Couples Therapy
Kristin is West Michigan's only Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist. She has completed this training at The Gottman Relationship Institute in Seattle, Washington. The Gottman Method is based on forty years of research with couples, and is focused on understanding the nature of relationships and what makes love last. You will gain insight and understanding into the dynamics of your relationship through a comprehensive relationship assessment which includes a research based online relationship checkup. You will also learn practical skills to improve connection and intimacy with your partner, manage conflict, and develop a deepened understanding of how to live life well together.
Kristin's speciality areas include:
-
Helping couples regulate conflict, repair hurt, and rebuild friendship and connection
-
Affair recovery, addiction recovery, and PTSD
-
Blended family challenges
-
Sex and intimacy related concerns
-
Transition and adjustment related challenges, including parenthood, physical health/chronic pain, and career changes
Kristin also offers couples therapy intensives (4-6 hours of therapy per day over the course of 2-3 days, often over a weekend). A couples therapy intensive is also called "marathon therapy." Intensives are well suited for couples who live outside of Grand Rapids, or who have specific relationship needs in which an intensive experience can be most beneficial. Intensives can provide depth and focus to therapy without the life distractions that ongoing weekly therapy sessions can involve. If you are interested in this option, inquire with Kristin if it would be a good fit for your relationship needs.
"Kristin's knowledge of psychotherapy and effective communication makes applying principles in every day situations practical, realistic and attainable."
